ChatGPT does not recommend your business because it cannot find enough clear, matching facts about you on the websites it reads. It does not dislike you. It names the firms it can describe with confidence, and right now it can describe someone else better. The good news is that most of the fixes are plain facts you already know.
Here are the six most common reasons, what each one looks like and how to fix it.
1. Does your website say plainly what you do, where and for whom?
Many small business websites open with a slogan like "Your trusted partner" and never say "We are an accounting firm in Tampines for companies with under 20 staff." ChatGPT needs that sentence. If it cannot find it, it cannot match you to a question like "which accountant near Tampines is good for small companies?"
Fix: put one plain sentence at the top of your home page and your about page. Say what you do, where you do it and who you do it for.
2. Do other websites mention you?
ChatGPT trusts what other websites say about you more than what you say about yourself. When we asked it and Claude for Singapore agencies in October 2026, most of their answers came from lists and comparison pages, not from the agencies' own home pages. You can read who they named and why.
Fix: get listed where your customers look. That means your trade association, local directories, "best of" lists in your area and your suppliers' partner pages. Ask the writer of any list that leaves you out to add you, and give them your facts.
3. Is your Google Business Profile complete?
When someone asks ChatGPT for a local business, it often shows a map with names and star ratings. That map comes from business listings. If yours is missing, empty or out of date, you are not on it.
Fix: claim your free Google Business Profile. Fill in every service, your hours, your area and photos. Reviews that describe the job help most, such as "helped me with my first company tax return". Check your own professional rules first, though. Singapore dentists, for example, must not ask patients for testimonials.
4. Do you hide your prices and answers?
A lot of questions people ask ChatGPT include cost: "how much does a will cost in Singapore and who is good?" If your site says "contact us for a quote" and a rival's says "from S$300", the rival is easier to recommend. In our own October 2026 test, ChatGPT quoted one agency's published packages in every answer that named it.
Fix: publish a price, a "from" price or a range for your main services. Then answer the five questions customers ask most, each under its own heading.
5. Do your details match everywhere?
An old address on one directory, a different business name on another and a phone number that changed in 2022 all make ChatGPT less sure you are one business. Unsure tools name someone else.
Fix: write down one version of your name, address, phone number and services. Then update every listing you can find to match it.
6. Can the AI tools read your website at all?
Some websites block the programs that AI tools use to read pages, often by accident. ChatGPT reads the web through a program called OAI-SearchBot, and OpenAI explains how to let it in. If it is blocked, ChatGPT search cannot read or link to your pages.
Fix: ask your web person to check that your site lets OAI-SearchBot and Claude's reader through. It is a five-minute job in a settings file called robots.txt. You do not need to do anything technical yourself.
How do I check what ChatGPT says about my business?
- Open ChatGPT in a temporary chat, so your own history does not change the answer.
- Ask three to five questions your customers would ask, in their words. Include your area.
- Note who it names and which websites it links to. Those websites are where to get listed.
- Ask the same questions next month. Answers move, so one check is a snapshot, not a verdict.
Or let us do it. Our free audit asks ChatGPT three things your customers would ask and sends you what it said within 24 hours.
Who can fix it for me?
You have three choices. You can do it yourself with the list above. You can hire an agency that does the work, which in Singapore usually costs thousands of dollars a month. Or you can use a service like Growth Pigeon, where we check every month and tell you what to change, and you or your web person make the changes. Our plan is US$149 a month after a US$100 setup. FAQ
Why doesn't ChatGPT recommend my business when it recommends my competitor?
Usually because other websites say more about your competitor, and its own site states its services, area and prices more plainly. Check which websites ChatGPT links to when it names them. Those pages show you where to get listed.
How do I get my business recommended by ChatGPT?
Say plainly what you do, where and for whom. Get listed on the websites it reads. Complete your Google Business Profile, publish prices and answers, keep your details the same everywhere and make sure your site does not block it.
How long does it take for ChatGPT to start naming my business?
There is no fixed timetable, and nobody can promise one. When ChatGPT searches the web it can pick up a change once it reads the page again. Changes that depend on other websites take longer, because you wait for them to update.
Do I have to do anything technical?
You need to do very little that is technical. Most fixes are words on your website and details on your listings. The one technical check, making sure the AI tools can read your site, is a short job for your web person.
